NMFMA will provide a basic overview of the key resources that can be utilized to continue your education in pursuit of obtaining a CFM certification. Instructors will share best practices and lessons learned in regard to taking the exam in a virtual environment. In addition to an overview of floodplain management concepts, steps will be reviewed for how to submit the application for and schedule the exam.

The New Mexico CFM Program establishes the foundation to raise and maintain the standards and abilities of all floodplain management professionals. As an ASFPM-accredited chapter, the NM CFM Program is authorized to use the CFM® registered trademark. ASFPM manages registration for the digital exam; however, you must have been approved by NMFMA to take the exam before ASFPM will proceed with registration.

The course will be held from 9 to 11:30am on Tuesday, November 5th at the Santa Ana Star Conference Center. Drinks and snacks will be provided. The cost for this training session will be $50; conference registration is separate. This training is eligible for two (2) hours of continuing education credits. We look forward to sharing our experience to help you prepare for the exam.

This year’s Workshop Field Trip will highlight the Valle de Oro and North Domingo Baca Dam Extension projects in Albuquerque. Both are operated and maintained by Albuquerque Metropolitan Arroyo Flood Control Authority (AMAFCA). The first of its kind in the southwest, the Valle de Oro project is an urban wildlife refuge throughout 570-acres in southern areas of Albuquerque. It supports natural habitat and provides educational opportunities – all while cleaning and controlling stormwater flows in the valley. The North Domingo Baca Dam is a multi-use facility in Albuquerque’s northeast side of town. Construction was recently completed to provide additional stormwater storage within the dam pool. Improvements also include channel upgrades and installation of a storm drain system.

The tour bus will depart from the Santa Ana Star hotel entrance at 1pm and will return to the same location at 5pm. Drinks and snacks will be provided. The cost for the field trip will be $35 in addition to Conference registration. We look forward to seeing you on November 7th for floodplain fun in the field!

The Workshop will begin at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 5 and will finish at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, November 7.

Each half day of workshop attendance will be eligible for 3 CECs for CFMs.

The NMFMA Social will provide networking opportunities and allow members and non-members to reconnect.
