CERTIFIED FLOODPLAIN MANAGER PROGRAM
The New Mexico Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) Program
establishes the foundation to raise and maintain the professional standards and abilities of all those individuals who work in the area of floodplain management. The NM CFM program was patterned after the certified floodplain manager program established by the Association of State Floodplain Managers and has been accredited by them. As an ASFPM accredited program, the NM CFM program is authorized to use the CFM® registered trademark.
NM CFM Program Charter
The CFM Examination has gone digital! ASFPM manages registration for the digital exam; however, you must have been approved by NMFMA to take the exam before they will proceed with registration.
In order to take the exam and become certified, the following steps outline the process:
1. Download the exam application packet - CFM Exam Application Package
2. Complete the Application and Pay NMFMA the Application Fee:
a. If you are paying by credit card online, you can email the completed packet to nmfma.ed@gmail.com; OR
b. You can mail the packet along with your check to the address on page 5 of the packet
4. Once NMFMA has reviewed the application, you will receive a form to be completed and submitted to ASFPM to register and schedule the digital exam.
5. Contact ASFPM per the directions on the form and pay the digital exam fee directly to ASFPM.
Contact Matt Clark (mclark@co.otero.nm.us) if you have any questions about registering for the exam.
ASFPM has a list or resources available for use in preparing to take the CFM exam. Their website can be found here.
CFM Renewal
is required every two years (see NMFMA CFM Charter).
Once NMFMA is notified of a passing exam, you will be added to our certification module which is accessible online on our website. If you are an existing CFM, and do not show that you have an online certification shown in your login on the website, contact Paul Dugie.
Re-examination
If you are unsuccessful in passing the digital exam, you will be eligible to schedule a new attempt, but will be required to pay the digital exam fee each time the test is to be taken.
Transferring CFM
is called "reciprocity" and is determined by each state with a CFM program. NMFMA's policy has been adopted by NMFMA Resolution 00-1a
After you have completed the required documents, you will receive further direction on how to register for an exam.
